Xbox Isn't Done Acquiring More Companies, Phil Spencer Suggests

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has suggested the Xbox company might not be finished buying game studios. Speaking to Squawk Asia, Spencer said Microsoft doesn’t have the luxury to be able to slow down due to the competitive nature of the gaming market. He pointed to some of the biggest companies in gaming, Tencent and Sony, who are bigger than Microsoft in games and continue to acquire and invest in more teams and content.

“This is such a competitive market. I don’t think we get to press pause on anything. Tencent is the largest gaming company on the planet today, and they continue to heavily invest in gaming content and game creators,” Spencer said. “Sony is a larger business than we are in gaming today, and they continue to invest. It’s a highly, highly competitive market. We…

YouTube TV Could Be Getting Cheaper If It Loses Disney's Channels

Google’s live TV streaming service YouTube TV has given customers a cautious heads up, warning that the company’s partnership with Disney may not be renewed past its contracted date. YouTube has said that if the two companies can’t come to an agreement by the deadline, the streaming service will lose 18 channels–but it will reduce the service’s subscription price by $15 if that comes to pass.

The message was published on YouTube’s news blog, offering some transparency for customers who may be affected by the potential change. “Disney is an important partner for us,” a featured quote in the blog reads. “We’re in active conversations with them and working hard to keep their content on YouTube TV.” The Disney-owned channels at risk include ESPN, Freeform, FX networks, National Geog…

Zombie Sequel 28 Years Later Is On The Way From The Series' Original Creators

28 Days Later is one of the most beloved zombie movies of all time, and is often credited with popularizing the trend of depicting terrifyingly fast zombies after decades of undead shamblers. The braintrust of the original 2002 movie and executive producers of the 2007 follow-up, 28 Weeks Later, is reconvening to create 28 Years Later, a sequel that has intentions to launch a new trilogy.

According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland have plans to shop the movie rights around to various studios and streaming platforms as early as this week. Boyle, the report says, will direct the first film in what is intended to lead to two more thereafter, while Garland will write all three. Both will serve as producers, too.

You can probably expect Nintendo to patch this exploit very soon as it essentially upends the delicate economy of Tears of the Kingdom, but if you have a quick trigger finger, here’s how it works.

Requirements

As of version 1.1.0 of Tears of the Kingdom, the patch that was installed on launch day, this exploit still works. As mentioned above, Nintendo doesn’t mess around when it comes to plugging this holes in its games and a future patch will lik…

Xbox Will Soon Let Players Stream All Their Games, Not Just Those On Game Pass – Report

In 2020, Microsoft launched Xbox Cloud Gaming and allowed players to stream titles from the Xbox Game Pass library. But not every game was available on Game Pass, which put limits on which titles could be accessed. Now, Microsoft is reportedly planning to expand its streaming offerings to include games that aren’t a part of Xbox Game Pass, as long as they’re owned by the players themselves.

According to The Verge, Microsoft is planning to begin testing this new option on the Xbox Cloud Gaming servers with Xbox Insiders as soon as next month. The report notes that Microsoft has been building towards this moment for some time by upgrading the capabilities of Xbox Cloud Gaming to handle thousands of games. But the company has to be sure that those expanded capabilities will hold up u…
